The number plate is the most important sign that the driver and racing car can be effectively identified on the field. Therefore, Dakar Rally also has systematic rules for the number plate. Today we will know these number plates on the field.The first three numbers are reserved, and the rest are optional
First of all, the numbers are divided into groups. The first three numbers of each group number segment should be reserved for the first, second and third place of the previous year, and the remaining numbers should be selected according to the first-come-first-served rule. Generally speaking, the smaller the number is, the higher the level is. For example, there are 33 Rally GP motorcycle riders in the world, and most of their numbers are in the top 30. However, it is not absolute. After all, it is optional. For example, Benavides' brother has always chosen No. 77, while the largest number of GP group is from No. 142 Stefanswitke.
Color of number plate
In the motorcycle group, the number plate of RallyGP group is black on a yellow background, the number plate of Rally2 and Rally3 groups is black on a white background, and the number plate of the group without backup is white on a red background. After all, there are only 33 Rally GP riders in the world. Most of the motorcycle groups are Rally 2 riders with black numbers on white background, including all 6 Chinese riders.

1-149 belongs to two-wheel motorcycle group
150-199 belongs to four-wheel motorcycle group
200-299 belongs to T1 car group
300-399 belongs to T3 group (lightweight prototype 4WD unit)
400-499 belongs to T4 group (mass production 4WD unit)
500-599 belongs to truck group
600-699 Temporary blank
700-799 belongs to the "middle-aged" classic car set (production year is after 1997)
800-899 belongs to the "old age" classic car set (production year is between 1987 and 1996)
900-999 belongs to the classic truck group
1000 and up are logistics vehicles
Note that the above situation only applies to the Dakar Rally in 2023. There are different regulations on the use of coding and plate color in previous years, which cannot be explained one by one.
